Video & Photography UNITED

Incorporating Canon's advanced expertise in digital camcorder and digital camera, the Photo DV camcorder MVX25i / MVX20i boasts unique features developed by Canon including the DIGIC DV digital imaging processor with 2.2 megapixel CCD for producing perfect still images, the Genuine Canon Optics and RGB primary colour filter. With all these superb features, the new Photo DV can achieve premium quality video and photos. It also boasts ease of use as one can adjust the shooting mode to either videos or still photos. With the new Photo DV camcorder, users no longer need to carry a DV camcorder and a digital camera at the same time but will be able to make digital videos and still photos anytime, anywhere. Also, with a compact and stylish horizontal outlook of bright metallic finish, the new MVX25i/MVX20i Photo DV will definitely appeal to young filmmakers, family users and experienced photographers as well.

RGB Primary Colour Filter Produces 3CCD Quality
Most camcorders designed for family filmmaking features complementary (CMYK) filter due to cost and size considerations. However, colour conversion (to RGB) during signal processing can result in a loss of colour fidelity. Applying their expertise in digital still camera design, Canon's engineers combined the RGB primary colour filter with a powerful 2.2 megapixel CCD for colour purity without conversion, enabling the production of videos with clarity and colour fidelity previously attainable only with a 3CCD system. Images are processed by Canon's proprietary DIGIC DV chip, which processes video images and still photos independently, assuring maximum quality in both settings. This design breakthrough produces better images with reduced noise, and allows for a more compact body design.

2.0 Megapixel Digital Photos

RGB primary colour filter coupled with a high-resolution CCD is an architecture perfected by Canon for digital still cameras. Combined with the DIGIC DV digital imaging processor, the new MVX25i/MVX20i has a technical advantage over competitive camcorders in recording still images. Maximum image size is 1632 x 1224 and comparable to images produced by a 2.0 megapixel dedicated digital still camera.

Outstanding High-Performance Lens with E.I.S.
The lens of MVX25i/MVX20i featuring 12 elements in 10 groups, including an aspherical lens and super spectra coating developed exclusively by Canon for excellent sharpness and contrast to assure top performance throughout the entire zoom range. The MVX25i model is equipped with a high-power, 14x optical zoom lens that let the user reach out across vast distances at a touch of the manual focus ring. Digital zoom is also provided, and can reach up to 280x. The MVX20i features a 12x optical zoom lens and 240x digital zoom.

At such high levels of magnification, Electronic Image Stabilization is provided to help assure steady shake-free movies. A new ND system is incorporated to prevent the decrease of resolution caused by light diffraction.

Overall - Digital Camera Functions
The Photo DV includes a complete range of exposure control modes, such as Auto, Sports, Portrait, Spotlight, Surf and Snow, Low Light, Night. Furthermore, the MVX25i has the Night + mode and Super Night Mode with a bright LED to illuminate subjects when shooting with insufficient lighting.

Other features that enhance still performance are a choice of three AF points, Exposure Lock, Auto Exposure Bracketing, exposure compensation and continuous high-speed "motor drive" shooting at up to 5 frames per second.

Print/Share Button and Direct Print Compatibility
Typical of Canon's unique digital camera design, MVX25i and MVX20i both have the Print/Share Button for easy printing and sharing of still images. With 2.0 megapixel resolution, photos up to 4R size can easily be produced.

Direct print is easy and convenient with a dedicated USB cable connecting with a Canon Compact Photo Printer or a Canon Bubble Jet Direct Photo Printer or any printers compliant with the new PictBridge industry standard.

High Resolution 16:9 Shooting Mode for Wide-Screen Movies
The MVX25i/MVX20i also features two high-resolution 16:9 modes: one mode works with image stabilization (approx. 1.38 megapixels), and the other mode operates without image stabilization (approx. 1.5 megapixels) but provides higher resolution.

Skin Detail Mode
The mode can detect the hue of the skin tones of the subject and compensate for low aperture gain, hence reduce the appearance of roughness on a subject's face. Another objective of this mode is to sharpen blurred outlines of the subject as a result of low aperture gain. Just by switching on the function, users are able to take perfect portraits.

Motion JPEG Recordings
With the 320 x 240/160 x 120 Motion JPEG format, card video at 12.5 frames/second can be taken. Copies can be made from the DV tape to the card enabling users to pick their favourite scenes recorded on the tape and attach them to an e-mail as a 'video card'.

Network Capability
The MVX25i/MVX20i features the DV Messenger 2.0, a peer-to-peer type communications software using the DVC for person-to-person teleconferencing. It allows two-way transmission of audio-visual content and even playback of video recordings via the Internet. The DV Messenger also allows control of a Canon DVC from a remote PC (camera zoom and focus, VCR playback and stop, and access to the memory card). Furthermore, by using the web camera function, it enables you to keep an eye on what goes on at home from a remote location.
