PowerShot A400 is equipped with extensive functions, merging high-resolution CCD with Canon's exclusive advanced technology to create outstand, sharp and refined image quality. Coupled with Canon's proprietary DIGital Imaging Core (DIGIC) processor, PowerShot A400 delivers outstanding image resolution and color fidelity, fast and accurate AF and AE operations, while accelerating processing speed. Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space (iSAPS) is another technology that allows the digital camera to deliver superb images. The scene focused on and shooting information are analysed and cross-referenced against Photographic Space. 2.2x Optical Zoom

3.2 Megapixel CCD

9-Point AiAF
Benefited from the 9-point Intelligence focusing system AiAF, subjects may be placed almost anywhere in the viewfinder frame and the PowerShot A400 will finely detect them and snap them into focus. Users can also select single, center-point autofocusing as well as manual focus.

Various Photo Effect Modes
PowerShot A400
offers a fabulous choice on photo effects for innovative shooting, including Vivid Colour, Neutral Colour, Low Sharpening, Sepia Tone and Black & White, 7 white balance settings, a selection on 5 metering functions including Daylight, Cloudy, Tungsten, Fluorescent, Fluorescent High or custom setting for white balance and are capable to deliver continuous shooting at approximate 2.2fps. ISO film speed ranging from ISO 50 to ISO 400 is adjustable for different lighting environments.

Intelligent Orientation Sensor
Improving AE, AF and AWB performances is Canon's Intelligent Orientation Sensor, which detects whether the camera is being held in a horizontal or vertical shooting position. This helps the digital camera determines where the sky is in the viewfinder to prevent underexposure, as well as subject placement and white balance parameters that are affected by the camera's orientation. It also automatically rotates the image back to the correct orientation during playback for proper viewing.

Image Brightness Histogram
For precise exposure control, a histogram is provided in playback mode for user to check the brightness distribution of the image, as well as the approximate degree of exposure.

Direct Print Mode and PictBridge™ Compatible
A significant feature first introduced in Canon digital cameras has been direct photo printing without a computer. The new PowerShot A400 is compatible with all Canon direct photo printers, including the CP-220 and CP-330 dye sublimation printers, and Canon Bubble Jet Direct Photo Printers, such as the i80 portable A4 printer, and desktop models such as the i990 and i9950. The Print/Share button, which lights up blue when the digital camera is connected to a CP Direct, BJ Direct or PictBridge compliant printer, indicates easy printing can be initiated by a simple press on the button to produce up to A4 size prints. Via its bright, TFT LCD monitor, users can control all print functions, including photo selection, print quantity, bordered or borderless prints and even image cropping. it supports Exif 2.2 and ensures excellent digital imaging performance.

Direct Transfer (Windows* only) allows the user to send images to a computer simply by pressing the Print/Share button. Different types of transfer can be selected from the image transfer menu.

Movie and ID Photo Print
Movie Print feature prints a series of still images from recorded movie. When connected to a CP printer, the camera automatically calculates the interval based on the length of the movie and the number of still images required to fill the sheet. PowerShot A400 also features ID Photo Print which allows users to make ID-photo-size prints by cropping and printing to the desired size when connect the camera to CP-330 and CP-220 printer.

Three-minute Movie Mode
PowerShot A400 is built-in with speaker for self-contained playback of Motion JPEG movie clips with sound, allowing 3-minutes movie mode with in-camera editing. There is also a new voice-memo function that allows up to 60 seconds of commentary to be added to any image during playback, such as notes on the subject matter or circumstances when the picture was made or even the voice of a loved one included in the photo.

Complete Software Suite
PowerShot A400 is supplied with a complete suite of software, including image storage and editing, video editing:

  • ZoomBrowser EX - Canon's File Viewer Utility software for viewing, editing and handling RAW images
  • PhotoStitch™ - software allowing two or more images to be combined into panoramas
  • PhotoRecord – software for photo editing, design and printing
Both PC and MAC platforms are supported. Users can also edit Motion JPEG video clips and share moving and still images over the internet. It's complete and ready to go, right out of the box.
